ReRooted is a creative space that embraces the community of Black hair culture in all its textures, curls, and locs. The initiative is to push the narrative around Black hair and to support Black Hair Liberations’ politics through the artistic expression of the spoken word, dance, images, and art.

We encourage the community to celebrate the beauty of their CROWNS and provide a safe space to express the emotions of dealing with a world that continues to police the hair of Black and Brown hair.

The Hairstory Project production and #MyCrownSpeaks initiative are evidence of a need to keep creating and building on the conversations about Black hair and how it's a cultural barometer of Black liberation ranging from politics to music and fashion. And, to meet the desire to push the narrative around hair, the project is being rebranded as ReRooted.

The rebranding allows us to widen the creative space for dialogue through production, visual and spoken word, and website.

It’s a collective thought created by Michele Avery and Yvette Modestin.

The world wants to project its dissatisfaction with itself onto my hair. That is not something I will internalize.

El mundo quiere proyectar su insatisfacción con sí mismo en mi pelo. Eso no es algo que

internalizo.
